My name is Dr Warren Antonoff. I’m the Principal Dentist of Lifestyle Smiles. I saw a new patient Rebecca from Bentleigh East yesterday. Because she had a bad experience with a dentist many years ago, she hasn’t been to a dentist for a very long time, like over 10 years… and as a result, her condition is very bad. As part of her overall treatment, we are looking at sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry, to help her with her dental fear. And she asked me what is the cost of sleep dentistry? So I thought I’ll make this video sharing with you what I shared with her, just in case you are in a similar situation.
Now if you a extremely phobic, or you have alot of extensive dental work to be done that may not be suitable if you’re awake, then we may need to book in an anesthetist or a dental sedationist to provide a deeper level of intra venous sedation. For this level of treatment, it typically would cost anywhere between $500 to $800 an hour, on top of your dental cost.
In addition, you can also do sleep dentistry at your local hospital, under General Anaesthetic. However, in Australia general dentists don’t usually have that type of access. But if you see a dental surgeon, they may have access to a hospital setting or general anesthetic setting, and Medicare can cover some of those costs.
So hopefully that answers some of the questions for the cost for sleep dentistry. So if you have dental fear, and is considering sleep dentistry as part of the procedure, we would love to help. Simply give us a call, direct message us on social media, or complete the enquiry form on our website. See you in the next video.
