During a smile consultation this morning with a new patient Felicity from Hampton, she shared with me a few things she doesn’t like about her smile. And when I told her dental veneers would be the best option to fix those problems, she was really surprised that veneers can fix those problems. So I thought I’ll make a video sharing with you what I shared with her, just in case you have the same problems as well.
For those who don’t know, dental veneers are, if you like, bonded contact lenses that are glued on the surface of the teeth as part of a smile makeover.
The problem that dental veneer can fix is the colour of the teeth. If your teeth are really dark and you have tried teeth whitening and it hasn’t worked very well for you, or you’re not suitable for teeth whitening, that’s when dental veneers can solve your problem, because after they are bonded on, you will get an instant colour change. In general however, porcelain veneers are better for colour stability because they’re a better material. Whereas the cheaper composite veneers can stain a little bit over time, so they’re not as long-lasting from a colour point of view.
The common problem that dental veneers can fix is if you have slightly crowded teeth and you don’t want to go through braces, Invisalign or any form of orthodontic treatment. Or if you have a wedding coming up and there’s no time to straighten your teeth. then dental veneers may be your solution. Without going through six to twelve months of treatment, we could recontour the teeth and apply the veneers so that they look straight. The one thing you have to be careful is if your teeth are moderately or severely crooked, and if the dentists have to grind a lot of your teeth to get those veneers in, it’s probably not a good idea. So do your due diligence because dental veneers are not a replacement for teeth straightening. But like I said, for minor crooked teeth, dental veneers is definitely a great option.
