What Would Dental Veneers Treatment Solve:

R

Teeth Discoloration

If you have extrinsic stain (outermost layer of tooth discolouration due to coffee, smoking, tea, wine) or intrinsic stain (innermost layer of tooth discolouration caused by trauma, a specific type of antibiotic) on your teeth that you want to permanently cover-up, then Dental Veneers could be a good option for you.

It is also the treatment of choice if you want to have faster and permanently whiter teeth as compared to several recurring sessions of teeth whitening.

R

Irregular Tooth Shape

There are times that some teeth might appear different than other teeth which makes them look inharmonious with each other. An example would
R

Tooth Anomalies

Peg laterals are a common candidate for Dental Veneers. It is when one or both upper lateral incisors look smaller than what it should normally appear.
R

Irregular Teeth Spaces

If you have minimal spaces between your teeth but don’t want to undergo orthodontic treatment or braces, then Dental Veneers could be a good fit for you.
R

Bulky Teeth

Some cases of bulky teeth can be corrected with dental veneers to make it look more natural.

Contraindications for Veneer Placement

Most patients are suitable for Dental Veneers. However, there are some instances wherein we do not recommend dental veneers to patients, such as:

  • If one or more teeth were root canal treated, then having a porcelain crown is more suitable for more coverage and strength.
  • If there is a severe case of malocclusion or bite problem, then the patient might need to undergo orthodontic treatment or braces prior to dental veneers.
  • Another contraindication is a tooth with large filling or decay. It is best to have a porcelain crown rather than a veneer.
  • If you are also a night grinder, you might be contraindicated for veneers, or you will be required to wear a nightguard appliance.

What to Expect with Dental Veneers Procedure

Initially, we start by thoroughly examining your teeth and overall health to make sure that dental veneers are suitable for you. We will then get impressions of your teeth to fabricate study models of your case and do a mock-up of your teeth where you can visualise the result of your dental veneers.

Mock-up is an essential part of the dental veneer procedure as this will allow you to tell us your expectations on how you want your veneers to look. At Lifestyle Smiles, you have the option to have a Digital Smile Design, which is a modern approach to planning your dental treatments.

Once you agreed with the mock-up design, the dentist will send the cast model to the laboratory for fabrication of veneers or have it digitally printed using the latest CADCAM technology. As soon as the veneers are ready, the dentist will prepare your tooth by filling around ½ millimetre off your tooth’s outermost layer. A lot of times, we may not even require to file your teeth at all! Then the dental veneer will be bonded to each tooth using special cement. Lastly, the dentist will remove any excess adhesive and check your bite before the treatment is complete.

You will need to come back for a follow-up visit several weeks later to ensure your gums are adjusting well to the veneer. Dental Veneers procedure isn’t painful at all although you might feel a little discomfort or soreness around the gum or even a little sensitivity for a couple of days.

Advantages of Dental Veneers

  • Dental Veneers mimic the appearance of the natural teeth
  • It is a more conservative procedure which requires minimal removal of tooth structure unlike porcelain crowns
  • Porcelain veneers are durable and highly resistant to stains
  • Dental veneers are highly customisable to make it tailored for every patient’s aesthetic preference

Disadvantages of Dental Veneers

As with any procedure, there will be a pro and con to dental veneers placement. One inconvenience of having a dental veneer is that it is not repairable once it chipped or cracked. You must go to our clinic and have another veneer made if that happens. It’s like buying a new car, you may require to maintain and replace them at some stage.

Dental Veneers After Care

Despite the disadvantages, dental veneers can last 10-15 years with proper care and oral hygiene. Just like the tooth and any other appliance placed inside the mouth, it needs to be cleaned and maintained. Brushing the teeth 2-3x a day and flossing is essential. As well as routine dental check-up, cleaning, and x-ray to monitor the overall health of teeth.

Prevent excessive load of biting on hard food or surfaces to prevent fracturing the tooth or the veneers. We would recommend night grinders to wear a dental mouth guard at night to make your veneers last.

Cost of Dental Veneers in Brighton Melbourne

The cost will differ depending on each patient’s case –shade wanted, size, the number of teeth, and if it requires certain treatment prior to placement of dental veneers. For instance, if you have a really dark tooth, you might need to undergo other treatment like bleaching or whitening so that it will not reflect beneath the veneers.

It will also depend on the type of material to be used. Dental veneers can be composite or porcelain. Porcelain veneers cost more, but it gives off superior quality and does not stain, unlike composite veneers.
