Hi, Dr Warren here, I’m the principal dentist in Lifestyle Smiles. I just finished having a conversation with one of our long term patients Renee from Elsternwick. Her husband and their two boys just had their regular six-monthly check-up and clean with us, it’s their first time with our hygienists. We were having a chat afterwards, and she said, ”Wow, the clean is really thorough and detailed, I’ve never experienced this before!”
Ever since we started hiring dental hygienists here at the Lifestyle Smiles, our patients have felt the level and the quality of our service go to the next level. At the start, I myself, was sceptical. What happens if the patients don’t like my hygienist or patients think that I’m just palming the clean off so I can see more clients? Let me tell you, it has probably been one of the best decisions I’ve made for the clinic and our clients, our patients, and here are the top reasons why.
Dental hygienists or dental therapists have to do a three to four-year university degree. They’re specially trained in cleaning teeth and treating young children and young adults.
They dedicate more time for your clean. An average dentist would spend about 30 minutes for a checkup and a clean. And my clients can tell you, I love to talk, and sometimes we spend 45 minutes just talking about teeth alone.
So in my personal experience, having dedicated hygienist on board frees up my time as a dentist, so I can be more thorough with my clients and I’m so grateful for that, each and every day. In fact, most of our clients comment that they never want a dentist to clean their teeth ever.
And you know what, having this level of service does not cost you more compared to having a clean with the dentist. We can shorten the cleans to 30minutes, charge you slightly less and focus on volume because shortening the time by 50% and charging 20% less would be more profitable. But you know what, we pride in the level of our services and care and we rather do it right, simply because, that’s the right thing to do.
And finally, think about this, every six months when you come in for your checkup and clean, your teeth are not only checked by the dentist, but it’s also checked by a second set of eyes, professional eyes, and with more eyes, we can see more and we can ensure that nothing will be missed.
So if you like what you just read, and you are looking for a new home to look after you and your family’s long term dental health, we would love to look after you.

Due to this intimate connection, a lot of toothaches and headaches are intimately related.
This might sound like an oxymoron, but a lot of people don’t realise that if you have an infection in a tooth, very often you won’t feel pain until that infection hits the nerve.
