Today we are going to talk about three reasons why it is important to have regular dental check-ups.

Having regular dental checkup is important so that you could avoid pain, or a really bad experience. This might sound like an oxymoron, but a lot of people don’t realise that if you have an infection in a tooth, very often you won’t feel pain until that infection hits the nerve, so it’s really important for your dentist to detect this at your regular checkup and fix it before you actually get a toothache.
Similarly, do you ever find that your gums bleed when you brush your teeth? And you decide not to touch it because it might get worse? Well guess what? Too late, you probably already have gum disease. Your gums shouldn’t bleed when you brush or floss. In fact, they shouldn’t even bleed or be sensitive when your hygienist cleans your teeth every 6 months. So if you have these issues, see your dentist before it gets worse.

The reason why it’s important to have regular dental checkups is so that you don’t end up losing your teeth at a young age and face issues such as the inability to chew and social awkwardness. Teeth are one of the only things in our body that does grow back. So once it’s broken, or worn down, it’s gone forever. Did you know, if you lose all your teeth and wear dentures, you will lose upto 70% of your chewing power, the foods you used to enjoy you will not longer be able to eat. In addition, you might start to feel embarrassed to smile; I have clients come to me crying because they can’t smile in front of their kids, or their family and friends. It sad to see.

The reason for having regular dental checkups is for your overall general health. A lot of people don’t realise that if you have a dental infection, that can also transmit into other parts of the body and can be a big risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and strokes. There is a very close correlation between dental health and your overall health. So by having your regular check-up, it is not just your teeth, you can also improve your overall health.
