Dental Veneers

What are porcelain veneers?

A porcelain veneers is a thin cover made from porcelain which is permanently bonded to the surface of your tooth to improve its original shape, size and colour.

If you have chipped, stained or crooked teeth that make you feel self-conscious and want to hide your smile, then front teeth veneers are a popular, non-invasive way to correct and enhance the natural appearance of your teeth and overall smile.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Correct multiple dental issues

Veneers can correct common tooth issues such as irregular tooth shape or spacing, bulky teeth or other anomolies without the need to undergo further orthodontic treatment.

Sparkling white teeth

No more teeth stains from coffee, tea, wine or smoking! Veneers can give you a sparkling, crisp-white smile without undergoing multiple teeth whitening sessions.

Natural looking smile

Porcelain veneers mimic the appearance of the natural teeth and are highly customisable to suit your unique aesthetic preferences.

Less invasive treatment

The veneers process is less invasive than other orthodontic treatments while achieving outstanding results.

Composite vs Porcelain Veneers

Composite Veneers

  • Quick and easy to fit – often fitted on the spot while your still in the dentist’s chair!
  • More cost effective – you can achieve an amazing result for a fraction of the price of porcelain veneers.
  • Can stain over time if you smoke or drink coffee, but if polished meticulously they will keep their shine for many years.
  • Cheaper and easier to repair, which may suit you better if you’re a heavy grinder or clencher.
  • Average shorter lifespan – composite veneers require replacement every 5-8 years.

Vs

Porcelain Veneers

  • Made in a dental laboratory by an experienced dental ceramist – this process can take longer
  • More expensive than composite veneers due to the involved process
  • Highly customisable with results that can match or mimic your natural teeth.
  • Lower maintenance and more durable – porcelain veneers can last between 10-20 years.
  • Long-term use of porcelain veneers can wear down opposing teeth.

The Porcelain Veneer Process

1

Initial Consultation & Examination

First, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and overall health to make sure that dental veneers are suitable for you.

2

Mock-Up

A 3D scan of your teeth will be taken so that a mock-up of your teeth can be generated, allowing you to visualise the end result of your new veneers. This is an important part of the process as you will be able to tell us how you want your veneers to look. At Lifestyle Smiles, we use the latest in Digital Smile Design Technology to plan and design your dream smile with you, ensuring you will love your new veneers before they’re even finished!

3

Fabrication

Once you’re happy with the mock-up design, we send the cast model to our dental laboratory for a digital print using latest CADCAM technology and final fabrication.

4

Fitting

Once the veneers are ready, you will meet with your dentist so that your tooth can be filed in preparation for your new veneer to be fitted. In some cases, we may not even require to file your teeth at all! The veneer is then artificially ‘bonded’ to the tooth using a specialised dental adhesive before the dentist checks your bite to ensure perfect alignment.

5

Follow-Up (2-3 weeks)

After a few weeks your dentist will get you back in to assess the result and ensure your gums are adjusting well to the new veneer. Although dental veneers are not painful, they can cause some minor discomfort and sensitivity around the gums for a short time following the treatment.
