Creating the Best Porcelain Crowns for you

Whilst CEREC can produce the best dental crown for you in such a short space of time, there are still times we do porcelain crowns the traditional way.

  • If the colour matching the adjacent tooth is challenging
  • If we want to place a temporary crown on the tooth for a short period of time to see if the toothache goes away
  • If you’re also having porcelain veneers on other teeth and we are doing everything together.

In the above situations, we will require you to complete the process in 2 visits.

Porcelain Crown

Your Customised Porcelain Crown Journey

Once you have consulted one of our experienced dentists regarding what the best dental solution is for you, and the same day dental crown via our CEREC technology is not suitable for your situation, then we will proceed with the 2 visit porcelain crown process.

1

Visit 1: Porcelain Crown Preparation

At the initial visit you will be comfortably seated in our dental chair and choosing your favourite spotify music or Netflix show to watch before beginning the procedure. This visit will usually take about 60 minutes in duration and we want you to have the best dental experience especially if you are anxious with your dental visits.

Our gentle Brighton dentist will then numb you up to ensure you are have a painless dental experience, a thin layer of your old dental filling and/or tooth will be trimmed away to create the adequate space to best support your porcelain crown. During this process all the dental infection and bacteria will be removed to ensure the tooth is healthy.

Once completed, we will take a digital 3D mould or impression of the tooth. This will be sent to our dental laboratory where our master dental ceramist will create a customized porcelain crown in readiness for your next appointment.

During the waiting period, you will be issued a temporary crown which will be cemented onto the tooth before the end of the appointment.

2

Visit 2: Porcelain Crown Cementation

When you return your crown will be cemented onto the tooth permanently to finalise the process. This visit will be much shorter than the first and you may or may not require to be numbed.

Once the crown is glued onto the tooth our experienced dentist will adjust the bite, shape and size to ensure the final porcelain crown fits perfectly, looks great and functions like a normal tooth. This visit is usually 30-40min for a single tooth.

Dental Crown Cost

Our fees start from $3900

The average cost in Melbourne for a porcelain crown can vary between $1,600 – $3,000 per tooth.

Several factors will usually affect the price of crowns including the type of material used, number of teeth, and if the teeth to be restored requires additional treatment.

If the crown is being placed on top of an implant, there are additional components that go inside the crown, so an implant crown may cost more than a normal crown.

Dental Crown FAQs

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a prosthesis that acts like a cap to cover a damaged tooth and increase its lifespan. They are usually recommended if you have large fillings or tooth decay that is irreparable with composite fillings. Dental crowns are made by dental technicians in a laboratory using a wide range of materials such as gold, metal, porcelain, and resin.

What problems do dental crowns fix?

Dental conditions where a crown may be a viable option include a cracked or weak tooth, post-root canal treatment, over a dental implant, as a part of a dental bridge unit, or to restore chipped teeth.

How long does the crown process take?

The traditional crown process Did you know that you can walk away with a new porcelain crown within 2 hours from start to finish? No temporary crowns, no pain, only the best result with the state of the art technology. Please visit our CEREC page to find out more.

Should I get a dental crown or bridge?

A dental crown is usually recommended if you have large fillings or tooth decay that is irreparable with composite fillings. On the other hand, a dental bridge is best if you have a missing tooth. A false tooth (also called pontic) is attached to the real teeth on either side of the gap to replace the missing tooth.

How do I maintain a dental crown?

As with your natural teeth, dental crowns have the possibility to break or fracture without proper care. An essential step in ensuring the longevity of your crowns and bridge is to practise good oral hygiene. Brushing twice a day and flossing is necessary to maintain the cleanliness of your prosthetics and keep your gums healthy.
